In the pursuit of fairness in testing, it’s essential to ensure that assessments perform consistently across all demographics. This presentation will address the ways in which MHS approaches this when developing tests. One of the first things examined, is analyzing test scores to see if they significantly differ based on race, gender, or parental education level—an important step toward fairness. But fairness goes beyond outcomes; it begins with access. Every test-taker deserves a clear and unobstructed opportunity to demonstrate their abilities. This means providing appropriate accommodations, being culturally sensitive, and using inclusive language that resonates with diverse populations. Equally important is the role of training. Those who administer and interpret these tests must be well-prepared, with a clear understanding of the test’s intended use and the qualifications required to handle results responsibly. Without this foundation, even the most well-designed assessments can fall short of their purpose. Ultimately, by embedding fairness into every stage—from design and access to training and interpretation—MHS ensures that its assessments not only measure ability accurately but also uphold the integrity that every test-taker deserves.
