It all started at lunch on Halloween when a student walked into our STEM classroom and asked to borrow a screwdriver. He needed to fix the fan on his costume. Over the next 20 minutes, two students who just met collaborated to solve the problem. After a few failures and finally a success, the costume was repaired.

An idea was born: What if STEM students created and ran a fix-it shop at our school?

One year later, in our second phase of implementing our STEM fix-it shop, we can share that this opportunity provides a seemingly endless supply of problems to solve, which allows students to work on their collaboration and critical thinking skills. At this presentation, participants will hear from students and educators about lessons learned and plans for growth one year into our project.
