Gifted students have unique learning needs compared to their peers, requiring enriched activities and advanced material to stay engaged and challenged. Learning how to advocate for oneself empowers gifted learners to take ownership of their education. Who better to advocate for gifted learners than the students themselves?

Gifted Coordinators, administrators, and teachers will learn how one large district in the southwest created a Gifted Student Advisory to bring forward positive changes within their gifted programming. Educators will learn how the Gifted Student Advisory collaborates with teachers and district administrators to promote the needs of gifted learners. This interactive session will explore how a Gifted Student Advisory expanded gifted programming with specific examples including the creation of Middle School Gifted Electives and our High School Gifted Mentoring Programs. Participants will walk away with ideas and strategies for creating their own student leadership entity.
